About Me

Mark Parenteau

“I like to think I do my best to immortalize the people I paint…

painting people gives me an outlet to show my appreciation for not being alone in the world… hopefully capturing an invisible essence… It’s a blessing if I can do so.”

“I started doing paintings of my musician friends because the music and mood just seemed to be suited to paint… there is a spirit of camaraderie and benevolence present. Painting musicians expressing themselves is inspiring in an innate way, but painting individuals in the streets is not really different. Everyone has something inside them, a capacity… how nice it is to try to bring that out to the surface of a board or canvas! If there is a tradition in art that allows us to look at one another in such a benevolent way I hope I am following it.”
